Planning your “Return to Work” strategy?

How thermal imaging technology can help protect your workforce.

An important part of any business continuity and disaster recovery process is how to manage a return to work.  In ordinary cases this is simply reopening the doors after whatever remedial works have been completed.  The Corona/Covid-19 pandemic is no ordinary scenario.

There is a strong fear of a second wave of this virus, and a determined effort to reduce what is known as the R value currently.  This R value is the measurement of the reproduction of the virus amongst the population.

Companies have a responsibility to protect their workforce and their business.  A spread of infection affecting a large number of staff can have serious implications, not only in staff well-being, but in terms of business productivity.

So, what can technology do to help?

Thermal Screening can help!

Regular deep cleaning and sanitising solutions can help kill the virus if it’s present.  Staggered working patterns, continuing home working for some staff and enhanced social distancing measures in the workplace can all reduce the chance of contamination from other workers.  But, what if you could spot somebody with the symptoms before they even get into the office space?

Thermal Screening is being employed in areas such as airports to spot the signs of an elevated body temperature (EBT).  Whilst an elevated body temperature can be caused by a number of factors, such as exercise and some medications, it’s also the predominant symptom of a fever and commonly associated with Coronavirus/Covid-19 amongst other contagious infections.

Using thermal screening can protect your workforce and your business.

There are a number of different ways to implement a thermal screening solution, and they’re not prohibitively expensive, especially compared with the damage a significant loss of staff could do.

  • Metal Detector – The easiest to solutions to deploy and able to run as a standalone solution.  The metal detector door has a thermal imaging camera and monitor mounted to it, which can trigger a visible and audible alarm.
  • Fixed Camera – There are a range of cameras with varying focal lengths and available in bullet or dome formations.  This can comprise part of a wider CCTV installation with all of the associated image retention, or it can be installed as a standalone, real-time only solution with central monitoring software.
  • Handheld Scanner – More labour intensive than the fixed solutions above, but very quick and easy to deploy and ideal for use if you want to actively manage the people entering your premises.  For areas where there is a permanent security guard the scanner can be mounted on a tripod.

Turnkey Solutions from Litenet

Handheld Thermal Imaging

These solutions can be quick and easy to deploy, but do have some requirements depending on the solution you choose.  One of our core services is structured cabling. So, for any permanent fixed camera deployment we can arrange for our expert engineers to install dedicated cabling to the camera locations.

The solutions use high accuracy thermal imaging cameras, accurate to within 0.5 degrees Celsius, and advanced Artificial Intelligence to detect human faces and their temperatures.

They can be combined with Network Video Recorders (NVRs) to perform multiple other tasks such as access control, face mask detection and facial recognition if required.

We’ve worked hard to think about the applications of such technology in the current climate.  Our conclusion was that it can provide a very important role in reducing the spread of the current pandemic by identifying potential contamination, therefore protecting staff and public in a number of scenarios

  • Offices – Particularly in shared buildings
  • Schools, Colleges and Universities – Protecting staff and students
  • Warehouses – Where large numbers of agency staff are used
  • Public Buildings – Libraries, Train Stations, Banks etc.
  • Retail Outlets – Shops from small to large
