Legality
Music is subject to copyright laws, and the relevant authorities (PRS and PPL) are very hot on tracking down misuse and taking their claims to court. PPL concerns itself with the performers, such as the band, singer or orchestra, whilst the PRS deals with royalties for the songwriters and composers.
The general rule is that a copyright claim exists 70 years after the death of the composer, however if it’s being played by a recent band or orchestra then it’s likely to still be covered by PPL.
Of course, you can pay the required license fees to the relevant organisations to allow you to play whatever you want, but it’s expensive. The alternative is to use the default stock audio files in your telephone system (if there are any), but these are usually generic sound files without any specific relevance to your brand or business.
