…and there are many ways we achieve this. We are passionate about the environment and actively seek ways to reduce waste, emissions and other factors that might impact the environment. It might not seem much, but we’re doing our bit. Here are a few significant examples:
We encourage staff to make use of public transport wherever practical and possible. Where equipment needs to be delivered we make use of courier services and shipping from supplier directly to site to ensure as few miles as possible are covered. We encourage car sharing for journeys where more than one member of staff is required. We recommend that any vehicle used for business purposes meets the latest environmental standards in line with the London Ultra Low Emissions Zone.
We encourage home and remote working. Not only because it fits in with the technology that we sell, but it also reduces impact on the environment. There are many advantages to offering our staff home working flexibility, in addition to the increase in trust and productivity, the reduction in emissions from staff sitting in rush hour traffic trying to get to an office is non-existent.
Cloud hosting is significantly more environmentally friendly than running your own server/system estate. By taking advantage of the economies of scale that data centres provide you are not only reducing the running costs your business incurs, but also reducing the environmental impact too. Powering and cooling one giant, well insulated, room is considerably better than lots of individual comms rooms. Sharing resources and utilising virtualisation technology also means there are less servers running, using power and generating heat.
That is why we are such great advocates for cloud technology, and why we use this technology ourselves.
We can’t escape from waste in it’s entirety, but we can do everything possible to ensure it is kept to a minimum and that the waste we produce is handled correctly. All staff are encouraged to recycle business waste wherever possible, this includes packaging materials, paper, staff kitchen waste (such as milk bottles, cans etc) and electronics. We avoid wasting resources by switching off air-conditioning, heating and lighting when not in use and turn off (or put into sleep mode) electronic devices when not required.
WEEE directives govern how electronic and electrical waste is disposed of, and we work with certified partners to ensure that our obligations are met.
There is always more that can be done, and our promise is that wherever possible we will consider all possibilities. We hope that our customers and suppliers follow our lead.
